A La Mode Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream

It's September! Soon it will have been 4 whole months since my brain turned into Wild Wooly. To celebrate, I had this absurdly expensive nut-free ice cream. It's pretty great. The taste is caramelly throughout (not particularly salty, but I guess there's a little saltiness to it), and there are a few swirled pockets of concentrated caramel to add excitement to the proceedings. Of course it's kind of plain for my preference (I yearn for mix-ins, textural shifts, choco, etc), but otherwise still very good. Hooray, sugary treats!

a la mode Vanilla ice cream - pint

This is lovely! I bought it to go with desserts (brownies, pies, et al) but it was so hot yesterday that I just had some plain, and it was better than I expected. A classic creamy vanilla flavor, specks of bean and all. Solid stuff! Good job, ALM!

A La Mode Mint Chip Ice Cream

Mint choccy chip is one of my top two ice cream flavors (chocolate chip cookie dough is the other), and so it is really nice to have a safe, nut-free version of mint available! It smells good and tastes just like the real thing, although it's white and not green (healthier I'm sure, but tastes some getting used to for this girl). The top was a little weird and melty, but overall I love it. Could it use slightly bigger chips? Maybe. But it's good stuff. Top flavor I think.

a la mode chocolate cups

Love ice cream, hate chocolate ice cream, so this balances out to a mild acceptance. It's so hot out and it's been so long since I've had a frozen treat that this ended up being pretty nice. Dark chocolate creamy vibes. A little cup goes a long way. If only it were vanilla!

a la mode Wired Pint

This is great! I don't know if I was just really in the mood for ice cream or what, but I think this is one of my top flavors. It is a creamy coffee flavored ice cream with a decent amount of tasty small chocolate bits added in. Not too complex, but very solid for what it is. No complaints!

A La Mode - Maple Oat Crunch

This tasted like my mom's Coconut Cherry Chew cookies, which was a bit weird. I like the "oat crunch" part an awful lot. This also had a weird soft film on top, which might be a bad sign, but I liked the creamy texture of this one. It was tasty and good.

A La Mode - Apple Pie Ice Cream

This base ice cream is actually vanilla, and not cinnamon like so many of the other winter flavors! That's a huge upgrade in my book. It actually tastes a little like sweet cream (like froyo!) or cream cheese, partially because the texture is a lot softer and creamier - especially on the very top (which might just be due to melting lol). It's really good. There's also swirls of vanilla cookies, which are fine, and also of apple pie fillign flavored swirls which are really good. This is what I want from apple pie ice cream! Nice job, ALM.

A La Mode Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream

Just finished a 2-day job interview for my dream job that I have a very slim chance of getting, so I decided to bust into this bad boy. You can tell I've been hoarding for a while, since it isn't really pumpkin spice season. Anyway, this is a really similar vibe to the last two flavors I tried - the cranberry (aka cinnamon) apple tart and the ginger cookies (aka cinnamon) brown sugar. Here too, as is usual with pumpkin spice, there's a heavy cinnamon flavor. BUT, there's also pumpkin puree, so the color is a fun orangey brown. Also noteable -- there's no mix-ins, no cookie bits, no swirls, which normally I'd see as a con, but this flavor is much creamier, texturewise, than the previous ones, which I like better. The actual pumpkin flavor does come through a little bit, and I also kind of get a minty (or maybe just refreshing) note, which is completely random but I love mint so I kind of like it. Overall this is perfectly pleasant, and the texture makes it seem like a very posh gelato treat, which is great. Good for little bowls, if I have the self-restraint!

a la mode Ginger Cookies Brown Sugar Ice Cream

Another now-retired seasonal flavor -- but sadly, the winter ones like Mint Choco Chip are retired too, and I never got a chance to buy them!!!! Maybe next year. Mint choco chip is my favorite ice cream. Anyway.

This tasted basically just like the apple tart one I had. I guess the ice cream is ginger flavored (very similar to cinnamon? or shortbread?), with crumblier parts in it that were like, gingerbread shortbread cookie dough. But the texture of the cookie bits isn't eggy (no kidding, cause this is egg-free ice cream), which is too bad. Not my favorite flavor, or texture, because the ice cream itself was also more crumbly than creamy, even when it melted. Still good though - I ate it in basically 2 servings, because I'm dumb, but it's my least favorite flavor of theirs I believe. You can tell there's really real ginger in it (I think), because the ginger bits are crunchy like a piece of cabbage, which is honestly pretty weird in ice cream. But you know it's genuine!

A La Mode Cranberry Apple Tart Ice Cream

Hello, fun fall flavor! These don't have any ingredos or nutrition info on them, and since it was a limited flavor it's not on their website anymore either. Shoulda ate it faster I guess! But I digress (although I wish they'd just print out the info to send in the mail since this costs like 15$/pint tbh). I thought this tasted basically like a ...McDonalds Apple Pie flavored cookie. To be clear, I like this. It has a strong "apple pie spice" flavor in these kind of buttery dough apple pieces? The ice cream itself is maybe cinnamon flavor? I didn't get a ton of cranberry flavor overall, mostly "apple tart", although there were a few craisin? pieces mixed in. The ice cream wasn't very melty, especially compared to the chocolate flavors -- I don't know if that's a real difference or just pint by pint. Still, even though it was harder to scoop, it was tasty! I liked it.

A La Mode Vanilla Ice Cream Bars

Is it. . . for me? 🥺

As you know, I love all nut free ice cream. This is no exception. They're not super large, I think -- but that's probably good. Just a good, small, pleasant ice cream treat with chocolate coating. The worst part is the curséd wooden stick, but that's par for the ice cream bar course I believe.

A La Mode Ice Cream Pint - Chocolate Honey Comb

Oh, hello, fun seasonal ice cream flavors that I can eat!!! I know I've either given up on my future or made it big because I ordered this even though it was literally 10x the price of non-nut-free ice cream. God dang. Anyway, I was not expecting to like this flavor much because I'm not a fan of chocolate ice cream in general. But since I do like the Speed Bump flavor they make, I shouldn't have been so surprised that I actually really enjoyed this. This is really creamy, pleasant chocolate ice cream, with swirls of honey in it. The honey is good and sweet, and also has little crunchy bits in it (honey comb?) which basically taste like sugar crystals, and they're just OK. One weird thing is that the ingredients aren't on the pint, and online the list of ingredients doesn't include honey(???) so I might email them about that. I'm on a label emailing mission y'all. But anyway, this tastes really good despite my preconceptions. It's very fatty/sugary though of course, and I was a good lass and ate this in 4 distinct servings as recommended.

A La Mode Speed Bump Ice Cream

I was expecting this to be less enjoyable than the chocolate covered ice cream bars, because I don't really like chocolate ice cream and so without the chocolate what's to like? But actually, and maybe it's partially a texture/comfort thing, I think I liked this pint even better! Definitely liked it more than I like regular ol' chocolate ice cream. And sure, there are tasty chocolate chip/marshmallow mix-ins, but even the ice cream was good. Kind of tasted like the brownie bites in Ben and Jerry's Half Baked (how I loved thee), very rich and cocoa-y. Which I like! I don't VANILLA like it, but I do like it! Interestingly there's a lot more fat in this flavor than in the other flavors, so maybe that's why it tastes so rich, but I'm glad it's that way. I would get this again for sure, maybe even over the pink/blue ones!

A La Mode Cooks Ice Cream

I ordered this online from Wal Mart and it was like 60 bucks but I just wanted ice cream so badly. It's easy to judge, but if you don't have a nut allergy I don't wanna hear it! Anyway, this is a solid flavor. The cookies are mostly oreo-esque pieces, like in Cookies N Creme ice cream (thus, "cooks"), but there are a few vanilla (like graham cracker almost, or shortbread) cookie swirls to be found too. Plus, there are some swirls of hot fudge, which are excellent and taste just like the hot fudge in the Friendly's cups. If only these could add whipped cream and actual dense fudge on top, I'd be all over it! A lot of the tasty bits seem to sink to the bottom, but overall this is super good, the ice cream tastes like normal ice cream, and it's a reasonable calorie count. The plastic spoon they include is a little corny, but it does save on dishwashing and also helps me eat slower, so I don't hate it. Would definitely shamefully order this again, even for 10$/pint (lol). Still praying for a chocolate chip cookie dough or mint choco chip flavor to come out!

Cost: 3/10 (It literally is 10$/pint, but so is Jeni's and non-allergy people buy that crap!)

A La Mode Pink Sprinkles Ice Cream Cups

This is jolly good! No spooky soy protein shmallows, just plain pink ice cream (which basically tastes like vanilla; I'm not sure what the pink represents) with lots of sprinkles. The sprinkles are actually mixed throughout, rather than sitting on top, which I've never experienced before but I think I liked it. Lots of sprinkles. Fun. I love ice cream.

A La Mode Partly Cloudy Ice Cream Cups

These are blue and supposedly cotton candy flavored, but lucky the flavor isn't super strong. And there's big chewy marshmallows in here too! This comes with an ineffective plastic color-changing spoon (I mean, it is effective at color changing, but it is not great at scooping since it is flat). I actually like this because it slows down my eating, and this is something I enjoyed more as I ate it! At first I was disappointed in the blue flavor, but it got more vaguely-vanilla-y as it melted, and the shmallows are fun once I knew they wouldn't kill me. Very fun and only 160calos.

A La Mode Speed Bump Ice Cream Bars

Ice cream!!! My kind and risk-taking boyf picked these up at his local Giant. I am still not going to the store, but I went to his house to eat these. :P Ice cream is one of those foods where most brands have a risk of nut contamination but they often won't list it, and since the pandemmy I've gotten even more cautious with what I'm willing to eat, so all the usual brands I love (Ben and Jerry's, mainly) are on the no-go list. But this is a special nut-free ice cream brand that still uses milk like normal humans. No eggs either, but I don't think that really makes a big difference in the taste.

So, these are chocolate covered bars of chocolate ice cream. Chocolate is my least favorite ice cream flavor, but with the mix-ins here it's actually good. The mix ins are white/milk chocolate chips and marshmallows. Now the marshmallows have soy protein, which I usually avoid, but since I wasn't alone I took the risk of eating it anyways and I was fine. So I think it's probably a really small amount. The marshmallows are the biggest mix-in, and they are super chewy which is a fun difference in texture. The white chocolate chips taste great and are nice and firm (another textural fun thing). The milk choco chips are a lot less noticeable but also probably good. This was super fun to eat and not healthy, but only 200 cals and feels like a decent size! What a fun treat!!!

Overall
Cost: 2/10 (IDK about in stores, but it's very expensive to ship online, like 20$)
Taste: 8/10 (If it were vanilla ice cream, would be 10/10)
