Deep River Sour Cream & Onion Chips

Ooh, crinkles! These are very firm. Fun to eat, but the flavor is just so-so. Whatever green spice is on these (green onion? chive? parsley? idk because it just says "spices"!!) is much more prominent and in bigger chunks than you usually get in chips, which is fun but I wish I knew what it was. I like a chip and this is a nice, safe chip, but I do have the feeling it could be better (softer and different/more flavor) nevertheless. Also, I'm basically blind so who knows what I'm even saying.

Deep River Snacks - Original Sea Salt Chips

Plain chips have never really been my thing, so it's no surprise that this is one of the last flavors of Deep River Chip I'm trying. For plain chips, they're on the good end of the scale -- good crunch, thick, not too greasy or weird. But they're still just plain chips. I'd like a little flavor, a little excitement, you know? A solid company nevertheless, and a decently filling salty snack.

Deep River Tortilla Chips - Ranch

Apparently these used to be called "Honchos", which is very disturbing. I am glad that they made the switch. Although I dislike corn chips and ranch, I found these very addictive, and not really Dorito-y at all. I ate way too many in one sitting -- they have a strong, tangy seasoning which was ultimately quite pleasant, not cloying or sickly. Neat.

Deep River Tortilla Chips - Nacho Cheese

Naturally, I thought these would taste like Doritos, since that seems like what they're going for here. But they were fairly distinct to me. My first impression was that these evoked fast food chicken nuggets, which is weird, but kind of addictive. The seasoning powder is sweeter and better than Doritos's -- more authentic? more complex? But I still just don't really love corn chips, I'd rather have some potato chips.

Deep River Snacks - Sea Salt & Vinegar Chips

What's up with their slogan, "We give a chip"? It seems like a play on "We give a ****" but that's awfully vulgar for a chip slogan. And then the literal "We are giving you a chip to eat" meaning, which is fine but a little strange because I actually bought these chips. Hmm.

This flavor is solid, even though I wouldn't say salt and vinegar is one of my top chip flavors. For some reason, these chips and this bag felt smaller than the other flavors', maybe thinner chips? Is it in my head? The calories are lower (200), so maybe. But the taste is good, a strong flavor which is nice, and more vinegar than salt. A solid snack.

Deep River Snacks - Salt & Cracked Pepper Chips

Yay for these glorious nut-free chips! Salt and pepper sadly isn't a very exciting flavor for me, but I think the execution here is good: the ripples are fun, and the pepper is actually tangible -- there's a real level of seasoning here which is good since the seasoning is the most boring it could be (well, it could be just salt). I like the peppery flavor, even though some pepper got stuck in my teeth before class. A good chip but perhaps not the best flavor of chip.

Deep River Snacks - Black Truffle Chips

Love Deep River for being Nut Free loud 'n proud. I haven't had any chips from them in like, a year! So I jumped at the chance to get these even though I have no truffle opinions (fungus truffle opinions, that is -- I love choco truffles, duh). Luckily or maybe unluckily, I still don't know - you can't really taste the truffle. They just taste like plain sea salt flavored chips, which isn't bad but isn't really good, it just is. Crunchy texture, good oil ratio, but nothing to write home about.

Deep River Snacks - Aged Cheddar Horseradish Chips

More Bryn Mawr office hour snacks! I never had a horseradish chip before, and boy, that flavor is really noticeable here! I liked it, though, it made the whole thing taste a little like a nice roast beef sandwich. The cheddar notes were comparatively super light. The chips themselves are still way too firm/thick/crispy for my preference, but I thought the taste was good and a fun novelty. Cool stuff!

Deep River Mesquite BBQ Chips

Another chip selection from the Bryn Mawr campus center! These were OK, but not as good as I had hoped. I guess I really like less crispy chips, they're so hard to bite into. Apart from that, the taste wasn't the type of BBQ flavor I like best, and also there wasn't enough of it! (Classic.) I think I prefer a sweeter flavor, or maybe less "mesquite"ness, whatever that means. I didn't get a strong flavor profile, but I also thought it wasn't what I expect from a Herr's or Utz type of BBQ chip.

Deep River Snacks - Rosemary & Olive Oil Chips

These were pretty good! They definitely have more flavor than your plain ol' salt and potato chip, and we already know I'm a fan of the company. Even though I generally don't like rosemary, I guess it's OK in small doses, as in these chips, although really I'd call this flavor more "herbs and spices" than just rosemary - I get a real "savory seasoning blend" vibe instead. It's good though, even if it's not my top tier chip choice.

Deep River Zesty Jalapeno Chips

I got these as a snack from Bryn Mawr's cafe, because I'm scared of all their other food and my office hours make my non-eating hours way too long. This is a big bag (300 cals = 2 normal mini chip bags) which I definitely appreciate. I remember liking this brand, but I guess this particular flavor didn't really do it for me. They are super super firm chips, very crispy, but awkward to eat in public because they're so firm. I also didn't love the taste; they're definitely spicy but it's mainly just spice and no sweetness or other fun flavors to match that. I'll have to try another flavor next time.

Deep River Snacks - Sweet Maui Onion Chips

I like this brand a lot; I'm surprised that this is my first Deep River Review! They have a nut free logo right on the front of the bag, which is so legit, and their chips are nice and crunchy across the board. This particular flavor was "OK" -- it wasn't as good as BBQ, but it's better than plain. It basically tastes like the ingredients label reads: onion powder, salt, sugar. I don't generally like sweet+savory mixes, but for what it is, this is really good. A nice amount of seasoning and a nice oniony flavor.
