Swanson Natural Goodness Lower Sodium Chicken Broth

Really scraping the bottom of the review barrel here, since this is indistinguishable from the Unsalted Chicken Broth and the Regular Chicken Broth. But it is technically a hybrid of those two broths, and therefore a unique product. It was, as always, fine. Made some nice chicken enchilada soup with it. It was a little salty. さすが chicken broth.

Swanson Unsalted Beef Broth

Just call me Lord of the Broths. This is a good one. I needed 5 cups and it is FOUR cups, and my store had just ONE BOX (bashed up, to boot) remaining. Must be that avian influenza. But it was a good box. I made beef stew (wine-free edition) and the broth was definitely better than the beef, and for that I thank this low-sodium base. It tastes like Beef Broth, but not in a tomatoey or itchy way, just in a warm, thin, vaguely herbal way. Thanks, Swanson! Soy-free as always.

Swanson Vegetable Broth

I was a little nervous to try this, since you never know about "natural flavors" re: legumes, especially in a veggie broth, but it caused me no itchiness. The taste was also suitable! Good for your soups and stews. These Swanson broths are really solid, allergy-wise. I hope they never add rogue legumes in there.

Swanson White Chunk Chicken - Original

Chicken in a pouch?! I'm allergic to tuna, and I'm allergic to most canned meat in soups etc (due to soy), so I never ever considered that pouch chicken was an option. But the ingredients here are just chicken and water, no soy or bean juice. I was still scared, but it was fine. Well, the texture and smell is kinda gross -- gloopy like cat food. But it tastes like chicken, albeit wet, salty chicken. It's good to have a shelf-stable protein option though.

Swanson Unsalted Chicken Stock

Recipes are so vague about saltedness of stocks and broths! They list it for butter, at least sometimes, but never for stocks. Luckily they all taste pretty much the same to me. I assume that unsalted is healthier, so I pick that one if I have a choice. It was just fine! Looks weirdly dark and foggy, but perhaps that's just stock for ya.

Swanson Beef Stock

What is there to say that hasn't already been said about this Beef Stock? It tastes different from chicken stock, a stronger flavor, but otherwise the same things apply: it's safe, it works, it doesn't do much for me but it is in many recipes. I am glad there is a safe option.

Swanson Unsalted Chicken Broth

The distinction among broths and stocks and etcs is a bit lost on me, but they all serve roughly the same purpose: watering down some noodly meal and infusing a light meat flavor (maybe). I guess I do notice beef vs chicken, but otherwise I don't have much to say. There's no legumes and I didn't get itchy, so I'm sticking with Swanson on these.

Swanson Chicken Stock

I didn't realise Campbell's owned Swanson, but it makes sense -- they are big broth players. So, I needed stock for a gazpacho recipe, and although there were many choices, this one actually had the clearest ingredients -- it's just "stock" (assuming chicken + water?) and veg that aren't beans and peas. So, I got this one, and I consumed the consequent soup with no issues. I can't actually speak to the taste because I didn't try it on its own, but I guess it's pretty mild and wet. I can't complain, and it didn't kill me, so I'd definitely get this again. Word to the wise -- it says use within 14 days of opening!
