Cinnamon Pebbles

Sadly, eating these just made me want fruity pebbles (or even cocoa pebbles). Maybe it's because I eat cinnamon oatmeal for brekkie every day, but this was very generic in taste. The pebbles are a pretty unique cereal form factor - even though they're basically concave maltless rice krispie - but cinnamon is just so overdone. It was fine and all, but not worth your time (and not as good as cinnamon toast crunch, I think).

Still I almost want to defend it because of this absurd review (which serves to legitimize the insane proteinifcation (via legume) of all my favorite brands):

You are eating a children's novelty cereal, sir!! What is wrong with you! Go eat some spam and eggs! (Also, fact check: it's actually 12g sugar, which isn't health food but is like, pretty standard cereal sugar content.)

Anyway, Post doesn't innovate much, so good for them, and the box art is good. Maybe they'll get 'em next time.

Post Golden Crisp Cereal

Aw, this was my grandpa's favorite cereal. It's extremely sugary! I guess we know where I inherited my palate. (He lived to his late 90s, mind you.) I guess this is basically the same as Kellogg's Honey Smacks, but it's got more of a burnt flavor and the pieces are a little smaller and crunchier. Kind of the Coke to Pepsi's Smacks, except in this case I think the Coke is tastier because it's a cereal and not a horrid soda. They changed the font and the way Sugar Bear looks since the time I last had these, and that is terrible. Booo, change. But the cereal tastes pretty much the same. Very tasty, but also makes my head a little numb as sweet things apparently do.

Cocoa Pebbles Crunch'd Cereal

Well well well. This is pretty bad. It's worse than the Crunch'd fruity pebble version, mainly because it's very tasteless, and the texture change is noticeably worse. Like a firm Cocoa Puff, which I don't love in the first place. It also has a bit of an artificial smell to it, and taste too if I look closely. Not their best work (but still edible).

Fruity Pebbles Crunch'd Cereal

I like fruity pebbles, but the biggest downside IS that they become very mushy, so this is a good idea in theory. They are cute and do have a good crunch, but they also smell kind of weird -- like easter candy or something. If I ignore this, the taste is basically fruity pebble, but I didn't realise how essential the tiny mush texture was to the ethos of fruity pebbles, since this is a very different cereal experience. Not bad though. I'm not 100% sure which I prefer, but I think it's the OG.

Post Raisin Bran

Alas, this isn't quite as good as I remember it being from my youth, but it's still my top raisin bran. Very filling, and the flakes become soft in milk, which is what I prefer and what sets it apart from the Kellogg's version. I thought the raisins used to have sugar on them, but they don't seem to anymore, which is less tasty but still pretty enjoyable. Plus it doesn't feel like a "kids cereal" so I feel better about buying it, irrational though that may be.

Dunkin Caramel Macchiato Cereal

Yay, Dunkin'! Yay, cereal! Of course, I was destined to like this. To be honest, I'd maybe rather have Kix, but I still love it. True to form, it tastes of Coffee, Caramel, and Chocolate - a very accurate flavor profile. And it isn't overwhelmingly sweet, either -- better at this than a real caramel macchiato for sure. Fun to eat and easy to eat many bowls at once!

Dunkin' Mocha Latte Cereal

Mkay, so I should disclose that I really love cereal right now (since I don't have milk at home regularly) and of course I also love Dunkin'. So I'm predisposed to like this, even though I don't usually like chocolate flavored things. The flavor was pretty mild here, I didn't get very much "coffee" or "mocha" flavor. It tastes good, but I don't know what it tastes like. I guess chocolate, mildly. Still, I like this product. Cute box also.

Honeycomb Cereal

I was craving this cereal for a while because it was heavily featured in the Sopranos and I am easily influenced. It isn't quite as good as I remembered/hoped, but it's solid. I put it kind of in the Kix family of cereal that is sweet but not that sweet. It has a light sugary flavor along with the cereal (wheat?) flavor, and it's good in milk. A little bit of a weird aftertaste though, and diminishing returns the more you have. I think I'm ready for a new cereal.
