O Organics Baby-cut Carrots

Some of my best friends are baby-cut...

Baby carrots are so strange. They're just whittled carrots! Pray tell, what are we doing here? Oh, they're for dipping. Aha. But I'd way rather have a carrot stick (that is, with angled cuts) than a weird wet cylinder. Gone are my days of raw carrot, but I had some great carrot/celery stick experiences, which I am now fondly reflecting upon. Mostly when a veggie tray was the only safe food at an event, but sometimes when I was at B-Dubs watching Sport! Thanks for the memories, weird round wet carrots! 

Enough of that; I bought these for cooking, because they were cheaper than both the whole normie carrots (inexplicable) and the non-organic baby carrots (inexplicabler). Maybe the usual organic baby carrot crowd's too scared of intestinal parasites to buy them. Exciting. I used 7 of these to approximate a regular carrot. These were just fine for soup and pasta. After opening, I will say that they got a little MORE wet and, dare I say, fuzzy? (Not moldy, I'm pretty sure.) But they seemed just fine once cooked. The power of fire!!!

Les Fermes Roger Gariepy & Fils Carot(te)s

Mon dieu. Just when you think there can't possibly be any more Canadian carrots you haven't tried, Roger Gariepy (& Fils) bust into your local veg box. Mais, these are actually a notch above the other carrots I've had lately. You get a ton in the bag, and they're fairly skinny, which means they're good for a single-serve dinner and also aren't all dry and weathered. J'adore les carottes. Tout le monde aime les carottes canadiennes! À bientôt!

Family Brand Carrots

If they ever make an AI of me, I assume it will just review different brands of Canadian carrots. Here's yet another one. Family brand is not a great name. If one person can be a family, which I have to assume they can, then isn't every brand a family brand? Anyway, these tasted like carrots. 5 in a bag, no issues. I don't have any other food because it snowed again and the state was on Driving Restriction. Alas. Maybe next week.

GNC Carrots

Another Canadian carrot! And finally, one that supports my gender expression. These taste just like carrots do. No complaints. My bag only had 4 carrots in, which is a little less than I'm used to, but which is honestly fine for my purposes (maybe even a bit too much carrot). Big 'n fine. The website says,

"Interesting fact: When we eat raw carrots, we increase the assimilation of all nutritive elements that it abounds."

which I hope is a French translation, but either way, is hilarious (and true). Merci, carrottes!

Mont-Blanc Carrots (Canada No. 1!)

I feel like I haven't had a veg in years, mostly because I can't spare 20 minutes to cook one lately but partially because my veg box is sending bread instead of veg. Anyway, this is nice. Feels like coming home, even if it's Canadian. Also, eating veg is such a privilege. Well, eating anything is a privilege. (I'm really bad at gratitude, except for when it comes to food.) Bless these carrots! They taste like carrot, were a good size (long but not too thick), fresh, no sliminess, all good things. So many carrot producers up north! We grew carrots just once at my house but they were 90% eaten by bunnies, which is cute in its own way.

Grimmway Farms Whole Carrots

While googling these to find out their provenance, I learned that they were the target of a recall last winter! (E. coli, not allergy). So there's a benefit to not being able to eat raw veg anymore, I suppose -- no worries, mate! Anyway, these carrots were fine. A little slimy and with some weird leaves(?) or other veg particles(?) on them, actually, but since I of course wash and cook them, it didn't impact me. They were otherwise in good shape, a pretty good size (not too big, not too small) and fairly fresh. I don't really have a lot of fresh carrot opinions like I do for, say, berries or water, but other than the whole E coli situation, these seem pretty good. They're based in California, by the way (another classic local veg box item....).

Country Fresh Carrots

I had a moment today where a richie rich was complaining about egg prices (up to 3.50$/dozen here, which is frankly still cheap per calorie) and I almost said, "why don't you just replace eggs with carrots?", which is a sign I need to g2b. Luckily I kept my carrot propaganda to myself. Carrots are really cheap though. And so versatile! I don't even like carrots, but I can't deny that they last a long time and add a certain "fun orange color" to any food. Good for rice, good for soup, good for pasta, good for salad if I could still eat raw produce without OAS. Good. But the taste is very "I'm eating this as a chore, but it could be worse". Oh well.
