Dove Promises - Milk Chocolate

I like these a lot, but "promises" is a weird name. Sounds like a hygiene product or something. I wonder if it is a tie-in to the fun quotes and messages that they print on the wrappers (such as: "Eat more chocolate"), but those aren't really what I'd consider Promises, maybe more like Advices and Inspirations. Inspirations is a better name. I'm a linguist. So, OK. These are fun because of the size and the sayings, and this flavor is nut-free, and they're also creamier than a Hershey nugget/kiss. Basically they're good, although a bit pricy on the reg.

Dove Dark Chocolate Bar

All hail the safe candy bar! Apparently all the "ELZ" Dove chocos are nut-free, which is good to know, even though their labelling seems to be transparent enough. I'm not a huge dark choco fan, but I am a choco fan, so I'll take it. Sadly it's like 110 degrees in my house so I had to put this in the fridge, which was a smart move, but then I was too scared to let it warm up so I just ate it cold and it was too cold. Hard to bite into and couldn't taste it as much. What I did taste was tasty, it comes in like 12(?) little rounded squares smooshed together, like an ol' Symphony bar, so I like that. 220 calories isn't terrible for how much choco this is. I bet it's good with ice cream or cherries or pretzels, so now I'm sad she's gone!

Dove Springtime Mix

No better way to celebrate the springtime (it's 70 degrees today and ants are everywhere!!!) than with a nut-free chocolate assortment. What a treat. This has milk and dark chocolate pieces, which aren't the usual Dove squares but somewhat smaller spherical nuggets (still wrapped in motivational sayings, though) and taste plenty good, although I do prefer the other shape. The caramel filled milk chocolate is the typical square shape, and I think that's my favorite one of the mix. Very sweet. All are good and the variety is fun. Too bad this was like 9 bucks, but it's worth it once a season!

Dove Milk Chocolate Hearts

I think these are the same product as the non-heart shaped Dove pieces (what are they called? squares? tidbits? I don't remember!) but somehow the cute heart shape is more fun than normal, a bit thicker maybe, and very seasonal (although let's be clear, I bought these in a post V-day sale). The chocolate is a little creamier than your standard Hershey's kiss/bar (one of the only other nut-free chocolates available in the USA), and tastes a bit like a Red Symphony Bar if you've ever had those, pre-nut-warning. It's very tasty and even though these are portioned for me, it's hard not to eat more than 1 or 2. They also have cute little phrases on the wrappers, like "Sleep under the stars tonight" (no thanks) or "Do something spontaneous" (hmmm). I like this fun little touch, it makes them like the fortune cookies of candy, which is a smart move. I guess like conversation hearts, but actually societally considered tasty. I'm a fan! When my roommates finally move out this summer, I'll keep a candy dish full of Dove chocolate most of the time, for sure.

Dove Hearts - Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Swirl

Dove chocolates are amazing because there's only a handful of them with nut warnings. Most of them are safe, tasty, AND they have cute little messages on the wrappers. How fun. These are special heart-shaped ones for Valentines, and they have a pretty swirl design on the inside. Ultimately, though, I like the original shape better for eating, and I would prefer either milk or dark chocolate on its own to this swirled version (to my surprise!). The taste of these is mostly dark chocolate anyway, so I guess that's a stronger flavor (or maybe there's more of it), but with a little milk chocolate which is more distracting than exciting. Oh well, worth a try. And still a tasty treat, just not my favorite version of Dove choco.
