Samuel Adams Boston Lager

Sorry to break it to Sammy boy, but this beer is not what I'd call "distinctively complex". However, the feelings it generates are complex! I used to be totally devastated when I drank a Sam Adams because of the Boston job rejection that weighed on me (and does even still). Now time has numbed those feelings a bit. Time and beer. And that makes me hopeful that other devastations will also dull over time (and beer). This is also a company which is overtly nut-free, so even though the taste of this is very generic-veering-on-unpleasant, it's a normal beer and I can drink it at parties or friends' places (as this one was) without freaking out that I'm doing to die. But yes, the taste is not fruity or hoppy or malty or anything. It's just "cheap beer but a little stronger haha". Lagers don't ring my bell I guess. But it's certainly drinkable, dare I say chuggable, and that's not really what I value in a beer but I will never turn it down, anyway.

Sam Adams Lawn Chair Lager

This was like a lighter version of the pink one (the IPA). It was also fine, just less intense. Still a solid, safe, nostalgic-because-beer beer!

Sam Adams Beach Session IPA

Please excuse the dramatic photo, it's from Sam Adams and not from me (I no longer have the bottle in my possession). I drank this a while ago actually, since it is clearly no longer summer. But this was a nice hoppy IPA! I like it mainly for its safety (nut free!) and nostalgia (IPA!). Objectively, just an average IPA, I think.

Sam Adams Porch Rocker

Like the other summer SamAdamses, this is just all right. It tastes like a Leiny Summer Shandy, which I used to adore back in the early 2010s, but now I think: it's just all right. Love that it's nut free though.

Sam Adams Summer Ale

Sam Adams is nut free (OK, and I just learned from looking at this bottle that they're called Samuel Adamses instead, but nobody calls em that, right?!), so I am a fan. Honestly, this was in a summer sampler and the ones that I tried from the sampler all tasted basically the same: mild wheaty beers, not a ton of hops, mild citrus. Not earth-shattering, but certainly drinkable, and seems appropriate for summer. Which is now over :'(

Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Beer

I know people rag on Sam Adams a lot because it's a mainstream  macrobrew, but I enjoyed this a lot. The ratings in general on beer websites are like, 1 star out of 5, which I think is totally unreasonable. It has a really nice cherry flavor which is super strong, not just a little hint of it, but that somehow refrains from being sweet at all (or sour, really, which is too bad). Just a nice refreshing strong cherry taste. The bottle art is also a huge upgrade from how it used to look; now it's very smooth and red looking, which probably adds to the strength of the cherry taste (in a good way) (no joke).
