Bigelow Green Tea (Classic)

What is there to say that hasn't already been said about Green Tea (Classic)? This was fine. It was a hot drink and it had a marginal (30mg?) amount of caffeine. It is only one ingredient: green tea. I drank it because there were no cofes available. So it goes.

Strawberries and Cream Dr Pepper

You'd think that someone who likes sweets and drinks as much as I do would therefore like Sweet Drinks, but I've never been into sodas as a category, so it's no surprise this didn't wow me. It's also no surprise that I bought it anyway because I want to support my fellow Dr P and try something new that sounds a bit bad!

Actually, the flavor profile was very accurate. It was as if someone took a strawberry creamsaver (remember those?) and dropped it into a normal Dr Pepper. Why would anyone do such a thing? I do not know. But it wasn't too artificial tasting or horrible, just not something that needed doing. I would much rather have some candys or even a regular Dr Pepper. Nevertheless, it's fun to try new things!

Fancypants - Oatmeal Raisin

This is a rebrand, but the company's been around for a hot minute. I never tried this flavor, though! Generally I like an oatmeal raisin cookie, but I've never had a crispy one like these, and it's kind of freaking me out. It's a like a small, firm, buttery, vaguely coconutty cookie, but also there's raisins in it (and ostensibly oat)?? It's fine, but since it doesn't map neatly into any of my cookie categories, I don't know how to interpret this and therefore I don't like it as much as I otherwise would. Too buttery and coconut(?)y, not thick or oaty enough. Nevertheless, I appreciate the straightforwardly safe product. Go team!

two-bite cinnamon rolls

This is a frustrating company (aren't they all)! I bought these because they had a "made in a peanut and tree-nut free facility" emblem on them. But their website ingredients say "may contain tree nuts". Many allergy moms online seem to be concerned about the issue. Me too, allergy moms! They didn't respond to my polite online inquiry. I suspect it's just that they changed locations and it's probably safe, but they could be clearer about things, that's for sure. There's also a Canadian version (which I think I had, for some reason) and a US version, with different ingredients and warnings. I tried them despite this, but I definitely wouldn't give them to an allergy kiddo under my care until they clean up their branding!

So, the taste is fine. Cinnamon rolls aren't really one of the foods I yearn for, since even though I can't have any bakery pastry, the refrigerated rolls are usually safe and are pretty good (although I'm sure a fresh one is better, I don't know it to miss it). This is definitely worse, because it's packaged and small and kind of dry/chewy. Plus there's no frosting! But it still tastes nice, just more like a small version of a cinnamon bread in a circle shape. I would consider getting them again if the allergy situation were more straightforward, but as it is I am fine with letting these "roll" out of my life.

Kellogg's Complete Bran

The reviews for this make me laugh because they all mention how basic it is ("not much going on with this cereal"), but are still fairly positive. That is also my assessment. I disagree with the name, because a complete bran should have something else going on like raisin or oat cluster or frosting or fruit or anything other than just bran, but no, this is truly completely bran. It is crispy and holds up well to milk. It is filling and tastes OK. It is not exciting, but maybe not all food has to be exciting. I can't really pretend to be above Only Bran!! There's good fiber/protein/vitamin in there, but also a pretty high amount of sugar (not that you'd really know from the taste), so it's just an "OK" pick if you're looking for healthfulness. But if you're looking for just some bran, I guess, then this is exactly what you want.

Hershey's Kisses - Strawberry Ice Cream Cone

These aren't really chocolate, but they are what we call in the business a "sweet treat". These were also bought in honor of the "strawberry solstice moon" (circa one month ago), so you can see I'm a little behind on my sweet treats, but there's never a bad time for a new nut-free treat! Honestly these were better than I thought they would be -- very much like a cookies and creme bar in kiss form, but with waffle cone bits instead of "cookies" and strawberry flavor in the "creme". Bright pink in color, vaguely plastic aftertaste in flavor, no melty mess. Not really evocative of ice cream, but some cone is evoked, which made me smile. And as we all know, smiles are a symptom of happiness!!!

Ojai Cookies

Ojai, cookie. This has all the hallmarks of something I'd like: a trusted company, lemon flavor, cookie, unique name, soft, circular, jaunty packaging -- need I go on? Given all that, this cookie was a disappointment. The curse of high expectations. It does have a nice lemony taste (basically a stronger version of the exceeding-my-low-expectations Homefree lemon cookie), a weirdly floppy texture, and crunchy sugar on top. It's pleasant, to be sure, but a different kind of cookie (chocolate chip? Oat meal?) would be more delicious, which is why I won't seek this out again. Obai :(

Pizza Goldfish

Although I have received quite a lot of medical advice in recent months, none of it has been diet-based, which is kind of surprising given past experience with medical advice. Anyway, that means I can sample pizza goldfish with impunity! They're kind of neat; more interesting than all the samey cheese flavors, although they do seem like a recipe for indigestion (tomato paste? oily cheese? a cool little fish logo that I'm supposed to SWALLOW?). But my stomach has held up surprisingly well even though every other bodily organ and system has turned to goo. Must be all those toaster strudels.

However! Even though these taste more interesting than other goldfish and therefore better, I don't prefer them. I think I have an anti-pizza-flavor prejudice.

Pillsbury Toaster Strudel - Cream Cheese & Strawberry

These seem so appealing on the surface. Back when I could eat a danish, or a cheese crumb pastry, those were top tier treats. This treat is bottom tier. To be fair, it comes at the end of my 'try every toaster strudel in my store' mission, and I'm experiencing heavy toaster strudel fatigue. But even if this were the first strudel subtype, I'd think "there is no cream cheese here! and the strawberry filling is Bad! a waste of a tasty pastry!". It's all true.

The ""cream cheese"" is actually sour cream and sugar, per the ingredients, which I guess is similar to cream cheese, but tastes only like a pocket of wet air. The strawberry filling is the same as in the strawberry flavor, and I didn't like it. Too strong and medicinal. These do have little ridges on the sides of the pastry, like an empanada, which I didn't notice on the other flavors. That's fine.

To conclude the toaster strudel saga, only apple is worthwhile. There apparently exist blueberry and cinnamon flavors, both of which have potential, but neither of which are at my local shoppe. So perhaps someday we will revisit the toaster strudel mission (but not for quite a while). (It's important to have goals.)

Mott's Fruit Flavored Snacks - Berry

As a fan of the original flavor ("assorted fruit") I looked forward to this fun new experience of berry flavor. But much like with taco bell taco shells, I perceived no flavor difference between berry and assorted fruit! I would think something (else) is wrong with me, except that the ingredients are essentially the same for both flavors, so it's all down to branding and style.

These are indeed different berry-adjacent shapes and colors, including cherry (arguably, not a berry) and pink (arguably, not the color of a berry). So, I like these a lot, but not in a fun new way, just in a familiar old way. Good texture, pleasant sweet taste. The highlight is that the wrappers now have Spanish/English translations of various Noun-Adjective pairs, mostly animals (gato blanco) and items in the natural world (shiny star). The Spanish includes articles, which makes sense because of Spanish, but the English doesn't, which doesn't make sense from a translation perspective and is why I could never aspire to design Mott's fruit snacks wrappers!

Taco Bell Hot Taco Shells

If it weren't for the orange color, I would have no means of differentiating these from the mild taco bell taco shell. Of course we all know hotness is subjective, but I didn't perceive any heat or, really, flavor. Not offensive, but not contributing anything to my taco experience.

DeLallo Whole Wheat Capellini

Do I dare to eat a capellino? I do. Actually, I ate about 20, if I had to guess. This is a fun shape after weeks of elbow, and the cook time (3-4 minutes) is extremely convenient if ever you find yourself very busy. They do have the same taste as all the other DeLallo wheat pastas, but since it is so very thin, it hardly has any taste at all. We have a lot in common, in other words. (A joke, amici!)

Taco Bell Mild Seasoned Flavor Crunchy Taco Shells

These were pretty disappointing for me, although a mild taco shell is never that exciting (especially a hard shell). I prefer Fiery Doritos Locos Tacos or bust. But I wasn't allergic to these and I do like tacos in general, so the meal was satisfying but the shells were not the highlight. Alas.

Dad says: 6 I guess. Could really get by with the spice in the shell and plain meat.

Pillsbury Apple Toaster Strudel

Finally! As I predicted, this is my favorite filling so far. See you never, fruity red innards ! That's not to say it's perfect; it's still a little artificial, and too sweet and fragrant for my preference. But definitely better than the others I tried, and I've only got one new flavor left at my store (which I think is just strawberry and cream cheese so I'm not too hopeful). And these are still hard to open the frostings of, still annoyingly sticky. Plus it gave me a little tummy ache, which the other ones didn't really. Maybe just bad luck though! Still the top pick!
