DeCecco Small Shells

This isn't my favorite shape for plain noodle dishes, but with cheese it's a good one. They're also so dense that you get a lot of servings out of a single box, which is nice. Generally a fine noodle, as long as they're sauced in some way.

Apple Jacks

I have these in my head as a cereal I like, and even though they were totally fine, it turns out that I prefer froot loops to these (as well as other non-circle cereals, like Pops). They do taste very distinctive, crunchy and sweet and mildly cinnamony (and I guess appley, maybe) but they aren't addictive like some other cereals. I guess you might view that as a pro, but one bowl was enough for me!

Lays Kettle Cooked Extra Honey Habanero Chips

Although these look like they would be tasty from the packaging, long-time readers will know that Lays chips all taste like cat litter to me. Truly unappetizing, and these are sadly no different. They do have a light BBQ/cheese flavor to them, but mostly gross Lays flavor. Tragic.

Corn Pops

I knew I liked corn pops, but these were even tastier than I remembered. I may have gotten an extra crispy, extra glazed box, because I'm used to more yellow spongey pieces but these were brownish almost golden-crisp-esque bites. Sweet and delicious, they mainly just taste like sugar (but not in a too-sweet way, for me) and not at all like corn. Love it.

Cocoa Krispies

First, let me just say that Snap, Pop et al are haunting to behold. Look at those little guys, whew. Second, this is a good treat. I'm not usually one for chocolate flavored things, but I'm very into cereal lately and I guess that overrides it. They taste a lot like a rice krispie treat, sweet with a good crunchy texture, and just a hint of cocoa taste. A pleasant eat.

Deep River Tortilla Chips - Nacho Cheese

Naturally, I thought these would taste like Doritos, since that seems like what they're going for here. But they were fairly distinct to me. My first impression was that these evoked fast food chicken nuggets, which is weird, but kind of addictive. The seasoning powder is sweeter and better than Doritos's -- more authentic? more complex? But I still just don't really love corn chips, I'd rather have some potato chips.

Frosted Flakes

Grrr-eat is a bit strong, but these are pretty grrrr-ood. They remind me of my gramps, who would eat 'em with a banana cut in (highly recommended). They're nice sweet flakes, apparently made of corn(?!) but they taste like generic sweet carb flake, pure and not weird. They're also very thin, not like your Corn Flakes flake, which I prefer. They sog up real good. I'm glad this came in a pre-portioned box for babies (I got a variety pack) because it looked like about 1/4 of what I'd've poured in my bowl. Whoopsie. Kelloggs is good with allergies, apparently, so I felt good eating this. Thanks Tony!

Kraft Triple Cheese Easy Mac

I know this isn't even called easy mac, but whatever, man, that's what this is. The idea of 'triple cheese' excited me, since as a kiddo I would sometimes double up on the cheese powder pouches in normal mac and cheese, forcing my parents to eat plain cheeseless elbows later. In retrospect, it is a little surprising that I was allowed to do this.

But alas, this so-called "triple cheese" didn't taste any cheesier than the normal version. In fact, if I were forced to judge, it might even taste LESS cheesy. In general it's very similar to the baseline model -- maybe wetter(?)? In conclusion, it is fine.

Frosted Blueberry Pop-Tarts

Oh, Pop-Tarts -- you're so nutritionally deficient and so oversweet! Why does my stomach yearn for you!? Anyway, I bought these and ate them all cold since I haven't gotten a new toaster yet. As a flavor it was better than I expected, in that it does have a different profile compared to cherry or strawberry. Not really sure if it's blueberry that I'm tasting, but something deeper is present -- maybe apple? It's nice and dark blue colored, whatever it is. Standard pop-tart otherwise. I gotta stop buying these, man.

Heinz Yellow Mustard

This wasn't great for me, although I may be influenced by the fact that this came in a 3-pack with Disgusting Relish and Expired and Moldy? Ketchup. It also is due to expire within the week, so thanks a lot for this absolutely wretched 3-pack, Wal-Mart.com. But I digress.

Focusing on the taste, I thought it was a little too sweet for my liking. Not spicy enough -- I guess I'm used to the spicy mustard types. It was serviceable for dipping pretzels into, but not my favorite mustard. Stick to ketchup, Heinz!

De Cecco Cavatappi

These are great! Obviously a fun shape -- just look at 'em -- but I think the reason I favor it so much is because they're a big thick version of the noodle in the Knorr Cheddar Broccoli pack (which I've stopped eating due to soy protein, which might be foolish but IDK man). Anyway it is a cute noodle shape. Awfully bulky, but fun with sauce. Also only takes 7 minutes to cook, which doesn't seem right (and I usually go over out of habit), but is big if true. And DeCecco is nut free, so it's extra nice.

Biscoff Cookies

These are a lovely cookie. United Airlines used to give them out on short flights, and so I have strong associations of eating these in hotel rooms after a flight. They're nut-free (even says so on their website), which is really great. The name is also a blend of biscuit+coffee, which is cute. The texture is very crunchy, but also they do soften in liquid (presumably coffee I guess, but I usually just eat them solo). The taste is a graham-crackerish savory spicy cinnamon. It's pleasant and classier than a simple graham, not as sweet as a snickerdoodle. Not my most favorite cookie in the world, but being safe and nostalgic makes them pretty darn good.

Wishbone House Italian Dressing

I got this for salad, but the joke is on me because I don't think I've made a salad at home in years (first covid, then food poisoning fears). What is this good for, then? Tri-Color Rotini Pasta Salad, of course. It is pretty oily, and honestly I'm starting to get kind of sick of it, but it is good to have around. Classic dressing.

Immaculate Baking Company - Organic Crescent Rolls

Fun! I haven't had fridge rolls for a hot minute. These were very stuck together dough-wise when I opened it, and very hard to peel apart. The popping was also quite intense! I appreciate their cute label and instructions, and the actual taste and baking was good. I think they taste even better than Pillsbury (more "real"?) but they made me a little itchy/nervous, even though the labelling seemed quite legit. I dunno man.

Cheez-It - Cheddar Jack

Hmm, I thought these were kinda weird. The flavoring powder is kind of like pizza goldfish or something I can't really put my finger on, but I like it, but then the inside cracker part is of course a cheez-it, and it doesn't match with the flavoring very well in my opinion. I think this is my least favorite cheez-it flavor so far because of this mismatch, but maybe I just need more exposure to it. Like wine? Anyway, it's OK.

LaClare Goat Cheese - Honey

Baa! I've gotten pretty into these goat cheesers. They're in a nice single-serving size (for hungry nights). I thought this flavor was pretty good -- it was like a sweeter version of the plain goat cheese, or otherwise a version of the cinnamon apple one without any apple. Not quite as tasty as that one was, but still a pleasant sweet cheese spread.

Oscar Mayer Classic Uncured Wieners

Ah, nothing like a fresh Uncured Wiener. I'm not really a big hot dog fan, but in the time of covid, things are different. I got these at the Walgreens after my first vax shot! And although they are beef/pork and not turkey, they are good. They taste and smell like a classic hot dog. Of course they are also fatty and generally bad for your body, but they are good to eat. And at least there's protein!
