Lucky Charms Treats Bar

In lieu of wine, I decided to imbibe with this 100-calorie cereal bar. Party time, boys! Surprisingly, it tastes a lot like a bowl of Lucky Charms. The cereal is just lucky charms cereal, and there's a bit of sweet white coating on the bottom, which I guess is milky? It's a bit sweeter than just cereal, because I suppose the milk dilutes it, so it really is a "treat" bar. Pretty good though. Better than a rice krispie treat even!

Annie's Cheddar Bunnies

I don't ID as an alcoholic, but I've been sober for 2 weeks and I'm starting to think my food reviews have verged too far into the "moping about my personal life" territory, so maybe there's some clarity popping up into my hind-brain. Or maybe I should crack open a nice wine tonight to pair with these cheese-adjacent crackers! Stay tuned!

OK so Annie's is a weird company because they seem really allergy friendly, but I think their rep is that they aren't great for it. Nevertheless, the box says "may contain soy", which makes me think it mayn't contain nuts. These are your basic bunny-shaped goldfish crackers, cheez-it crackers, cheddar penguin crackers, etc. The shape is cute, although a little less puffy than you might like in such a snack. The taste is an acquired one. I'd prefer a cheesier, powder-y-er snack, but these do have the oddly spicy burnt flavor that I've come to associate with cheez-its et al. It never was my favorite, but as I get older I can appreciate it a bit more. (I know cheez-its are a weird thing to age in to, unlike, say, sauerkraut, but it is what it is). One positive of these in particular is that a serving is 51 crackers, which is a lot of crackers. Takes forever to count out, but a little satisfying in an OCD way, too. Also, they're organic! I was brought up to not care about this, but a lot of people I respect really care about it, so I should probably try to form my own informed perspective on the issue at some point. Maybe next year!

Rice Krispies Treats - Original

Did not expect to be eating one of these, but in my fifth hour of waiting unexpectedly at a Honda place in Germantown, TN, I grabbed this as it looked like something I could eat without touching it. There were also little kids about, and peanut butter crackers on the snack cart. I was sweating in more ways than one. Anyway, the RKT is solid. Still nut free per the label, and tastes like a sweet, not super buttery or sticky treat (compared to my homemade attempts). No complaints, but no ecstasy either. Also, lest you wonder, I am still depressed! Just about the country in addition to my personal life :P

Payne's Bar-B-Q

Aw, this place was nice. We visited during a massive heat wave, so it was a lil sweaty in there, but first of all it was one of the only places where people (workers and customers) were still wearing masks, and second of all they actually answered me about if they use nuts (they don't). So I was predisposed to like them. I got a half slab of ribs, which was like, 8 big ribs, and it also came with 2 slices of bread and cole slaw. The ribs were solid, I got medium BBQ sauce which wasn't hot at all, but which was tasty. Very filling, chill place.

Dunkin' Signature Series - Select Bold Dark Roast Blend

This is so elaborate a branding for what I imagine is very similar to Dunkin' Dark, Dunkin' Midnight, Dunkin' Harvest Dark, and probably many future Dark Blends. However, it is a solid kcup, and it does have a distinct flavor profile when compared to the non-dark types. It's less fruity, less sweet, smoother, etc. The comparison to a dark beer (vs a wheat beer?) is pretty accurate. With milk this is a very smoothing and tasty coffee drink. Even when you're in mope mode.

Bubbie's Biscotti - Belgian Chocolate Marble

Nothing heals the heart like some Nut Free Biscotti! I don't know if I've ever had biscotti before, actually, so it's hard to know how this compares. I suspect it was much softer than it was supposed to be, but my house is humid so that's probably my fault. They had the texture and taste of those Lofthouse Sugar Cookies, which seems wrong, but hey, those cookies are sweet and good. I like the pretty choco swirls on top and the chocolate looking inside. The classy look sort of masks the normie sweet taste. I'd try other flavors as long as they don't have soy flour like the pumpkin spice one does!

Dunkin' Falling For Maple kcups

This has a really, really strong maple scent! And I guess flavor too. At first I was like "haha, wow, neat!" but after a few I was like "oh god, any other flavor, please", and that's where I find myself today. The artificially flavored ones always turn sour for me after a while. Still, if you love maple, this is worth a shot -- it smells like someone's eating waffles the whole day long after I make it, which is sometimes nice, sometimes not. A little bit of that sharp artificial aftertaste, but otherwise this goes well with milk and is certainly drinkable, and a fun change of pace (for a time). Probably would pick a regular flavor over this in the future, though. (Or get a smaller pack!)

Fancypants Spiced Chocolate Cookies

These are from December 2021, so unfortunately I'm a little nervous they'll kill me. So far so good. They taste oddly similar to the Irish Creme cookies - a little hint of alcohol(??!). Also spicy, the cayenne does come through. Not super chocolatey which is fine by me, although I was hoping for some choco chunks or chips maybe. They're fine, spicy and sweet, but the age of 'em makes it hard to fully enjoy. Love a nut free cookie though; wish I could buy these at my local store.

Hershey's Hugs

The concept of a "SHARE" pack kind of offends me (I live in solitude, there is no SHAREing), but I do like the stylish new packaging here. Still these are only a "may contain almonds", so they are blissfully safe for me. I've always liked Hugs, and certainly liked them better than kisses, for many reasons: They are prettier; I like white chocolate; The two-layer design is more fun to eat; a non-food Hug is less creepy than a Kiss. Even the wrappers are cuter, and dare I say, iconic. One of my top candies, comes in a perfect size for snackin', and you can't really even find another non-holiday white choco candy. Certainly not a nut-free one!

popchips potato - sea salt & vinegar

These are cute, and ostensibly nut free! The subheading "POTATO" makes me wonder if there are non-potato popchips (corn!?) but not wonder enough to look it up. Stay tuned maybe. Anyway, these are shaped like cute little bowls, and they have the texture of a quaker rice cake, but thinner. This is a good thing, I think. They might be better than regular chips, except the salt and vinegar is masking my comparison abilities. I don't love vinegar, so I don't think this particular flavor is working for me, even though it works OK with some traditional fried chips. Perhaps the airy popchip calls for an airier, less biting flavor profile. Fun to eat though, and I guess healthier than other chips, which means a serving is more chips, which is always a plus. I don't know that I'd go for this flavor again (it's more vinegar than salt), but I'd certainly go for a pop chip of another type.

Bowery Baby Butter Lettuce

I like all pre-washed lettuce. Actually, I don't know if this is pre-washed, but it says "no need to wash", which is the same thing in my book. I did have a few wilty pieces and a few bug-holey pieces, but for the most part it was crispy and fresh. A good single-serve salad size container, too.

Sierra Nevada Wild Little Thing

This is good. I got it because I like sours, but it's more of a fruity wheat beer than anything (although the fruit is sweet guava/berry instead of citrus, which is fun). It's pretty sweet and fruity but not gross. Almost reminds me of a wine. I think the can is really cute, and it is nut free. Too bad it also reminds me of sad times at Mandy High!! šŸ˜œ

Philadelphia Spicy JalapeƱo Cream Cheese

I only got this because the store was out of Garden Veggie flavor, but you know what, it's pretty good on its own merits! There is a nice heat to the jalapeƱo bits, and not too much unadulterated Cream Cheese flavor, which I like. A little garlicy but not overmuch. If you're looking for 'some but not a lot' of savory flavor, this is your topping!

Weis Turkey Gravy

There's a small set of grocery items that are Holy Grail items; hard to find but the only canonical version of that thing to me/my family. This gravy packet is one of them. It's the only good turkey gravy out there! Plus, no soy protein. God bless this local grocery gravy packet.

Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA

I ordered this at Homegrown because I recently saw on Sierra Nevada's website that they don't use any nuts in their beers! Huzzah. Three cheers to them for putting that info out there. (Zero cheers to me for still being a mopey fuck, though.) Anyway, this is a good beer. It was better than I expected! (Unlike my life.) Classic IPA but not too hoppy. Hazy, I guess. Also, decent alc percentage (6.5%) so the two beer limit really gets you somewhere here. (Somewhere mopey.) :P

2017 Poggio Anima "Asmodeus" Nero d'Avola

I can't give an objective rating to this wine, 'cause I'm in a bigtime sadgirl mood. I drank it with a person I liked on the last day I'll ever see them! That's sad! But I can compartmentalize with the best of 'em, so let's try. It's a pretty solid red. The bottle is cute and unique, and I like the screwtop. Even though I had this sitting around for a long time, it didn't go off in flavor (I think). A little brighter and sweeter than I'm used to for a red, but I like that. More cherry than earth. More plum than wood. That's good. It's so old it doesn't even have a suggested recipe, which is also good because I don't have it in me to cook or eat. I'm very dramatic, which is perfect for Asmodeus!

At first I thought: these are bad, with just a very strong mint flavor, but after a few more I thought hey, they're not so bad. Nice chocolate chips in there, and they're definitely minty all right.

Mrs. T's Feta & Spinach Pierogies

So many pierogies! My first thought was that I liked em, since they basically taste like all the rest but maybe a bit less potatoey and more ravioli-y, which I liked. But on second taste, I wasn't loving it. The fickle world of pierogy.

Jack Daniel's Fully Cooked Pulled Pork

I saw this in the refrigerated section and thought "why not treat myself?", because it was so expensive (like 10$?) for this tiiiny package of meat. It tasted fine, but not great. I would probably not recommend this to you, especially if you are more than 1 human. Cooks very fast though.

Gatorade Frost - Glacier Freeze

Ah, this is from the days when I shared an office at Havvo and got vending machine drinks once a week to cheer me up (and because I was scared to eat in there). All the drinks were pretty bad on multiple levels, and this was too. So sugary and not even that refreshing. I am glad I stopped doing this drink ritual.

Act II 94% Fat Free Butter Popcorn

Somehow I guess this is different from their "light butter" popcorn(??). It's the same idea though -- a light butter flavor. Where 6% of it is pure fat. It's a solid popcorn either way, no complains.

Stouffer's Meat Lovers Lasagna

There sure are a lot of variations of Stouffer's lasagnas! I'm not complaining though, they're all decent. This one seems like it'd be bottom of the barrel for me since frozen meat is never great, but there's no soy filler in this, and even though I do wish there were more cheese, it's still pretty good. Tastes basically the same as all the other varieties.

Pillsbury Grands! Buttermilk Biscuits (with Flaky Layers)

Some of my best friends have flaky layers! :p Anyway, these make for a great side dish to nearly anything. The problem is that I, one human, probably shouldn't eat 8 large biscuits. If only they came in little mini-packs of 2 or something, then single people would really rule the earth. Other than this, love 'em, they're classic.

Capri Sun - Pacific Cooler

O'blog, my life is falling apart and all I have to comfort me is the single capri sun I bought because I didn't get one at Arby's. It's not all that comforting because Capri Suns aren't very good. I'm not a major juice fan, but even amongst juices (or sweet drinks), this is D tier. It tastes like plasticy grape juice with a ton of sugar poured in. Might be better if I added a gallon of water, making a vitamin-water-esque concoction, but it's too late for that now. Just like it's too late for me to find love because the people I like keep moving across the country. Ha ha! Keep on truckin', though, capri sun and blog fans. :')
